Can you beat the Word Clock?
Anyone who always likes to have the last word will certainly
enjoy getting stuck into the latest new Word for Word game from Gibsons which guarantees a challenge for every English language boffin whether young or old, making
it an essential element for every family’s game cupboard.
Incredibly simple, yet fiendishly hard, Word for Word is a race
against time to create and change words by adding or anagramming letters. ’Simple’ you might
assume, but with just 30 seconds to change the word using
nine random tiles the objective is definitely more difficult than you think.
Once the first player has created the initial word, they then replenish their letters and wait with bated breath to see if their opponents
can rearrange the letters, substitute or add a letter to make a
different word. If the next player fails to do this within the 30
second time frame, then they’re out of the game for the rest of that round.
The player who creates the last valid word which no other players are able to change is the round winner and scores 10 points for
every letter on the table, while the overall winner is the first player
to achieve 500 points.
Word for Word is ideal for taking along on your travels too as
there is no board or fiddly racks, just 99 simple wooden tiles,
a sand timer and a cloth bag to keep them in. The beauty of
this game is that it can easily be adapted according to age and
ability so it’s fun for all the family. For example, younger players
can be allowed 60 seconds to create their words and the more difficult letters of the alphabet can be removed to make it easier;
whilst seasoned experts will have their ability tested to
the limit by allowing them only 7 or 8 letters to play with.
Word for Word is suitable for 2 - 6 players and one thing’s for
sure once you’ve played your very first game you won’t want to
give up until you’re the winner!
